About Me
My name is Waddah Weld Ali, and I am proud to serve as your independent candidate for the federal seat of Moncrieff.
I am a single father to a wonderful 16-year-old son, an academic teacher, a civil engineer, and a committed political activist with experience both in Australia and overseas. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching, mentoring, and leading hundreds of students and engineers, many of whom are now accomplished professionals and academics, shaping a better future for all.
I was born and raised in Bahrain, where I co-founded the environmental advocacy organization *Bahrain Environment Friends*. Since immigrating to Australia over 20 years ago, I have developed a deep appreciation for the rich culture and spiritual connection of this country’s First Nations people. I live, work, and raise my family on Kombumerri Country, and I pay my deepest respects to the Elders of this land, past and present.
For the past five years, I have called the Gold Coast home. Here, I have forged strong ties within the local community—whether by participating in forums, volunteering at school events, or taking part in various sports challenges. The breathtaking landscapes, from the golden beaches to the mountains, and the vibrant local community, have become an inseparable part of my life.
My connection with the diverse members of this community runs deep—construction workers, educators, small business owners, farmers, and families alike. I understand the challenges faced by many, from the families struggling to balance rising costs of living with basic needs, to workers juggling long hours or multiple jobs just to make ends meet.
I believe Moncrieff deserves better representation—representation that prioritizes fairness, justice, and the wellbeing of all residents over partisan politics. I am committed to turning our shared passion for a better future into action. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive, and more equitable community for everyone.
